- Who makes this?
- Bombalurina is the jewelry alter ego of a 33 y.o. Minneapolis artist/crafter/designer and all around maker of stuff. Mixtures of old and new, bygone eras, kitsch and sentiment are the order of the day. Many of my items are one of a kind.
- What's it made of?
- Many of these items are sterling silver, mixed with semiprecious, gold vermeil, and vintage beads.
Many of these items are a mixture of new reproduction brass, stampings made recently from vintage tooling – in designs that are old, often from the turn of the last century. I also like to incorporate pieces of vintage jewelry whenever possible, vintage paper images (not reproductions) and vintage and gemstone beads.
These items may or may not contain nickel, depending on the piece. If you have concerns about nickel allergy, please inquire about the piece you are thinking of buying. I’m an extremely nickel-allergic person myself and I’m eager to hear your concerns and work out alternate findings when possible.
Also, Lead in Jewelry legislation recently adopted by CA makes the sale of certain items to CA residents prohibited. It’s not that I have components I know to have lead in them and I’m selling them to you anyway, it’s that some components I use are vintage of uknown origin and I’m therefore unable to prove that they do not have excess levels of lead with manufacturer’s safety sheets. Alternative chains and parts will be used when possible in creating CA compliant items and for anyone else who requests. Email me with any questions or lead concerns.
A note about bent brass:
Bending brass around a stone or item is an old technique. There is ample evidence of it in West German costume jewelry of the 50’s and czech jewelry long before that. If you’re lucky you can still find the occasional wonderful wrapped item on rubylane or in an antique store. Anyone who claims to have a patent on the technique or to be the first to do it or have the only rights to do it is 1. unaware or disingenuous about the items that influenced them from the antiques market and/or 2. willfully ignorant of copyright law which does not allow for the ownership of a non-patented system or technique.
If you love my jewelry and want to own a piece, of course I’m thrilled. If you love my jewelry and are influenced to play with materials and invent your own twists on what you see, I endorse and congratulate you and wish you well.
